Why My Little Spanish Place Is Worth the Visit

Singapore has no shortage of Spanish restaurants, but My Little Spanish Place earns its reputation through consistency and character. Located in a stretch of Bukit Timah shophouses away from the busier dining clusters, it draws a neighbourhood crowd that keeps coming back, always a reliable sign.

The setting is warm and intimate without being cramped: Spanish touches in the décor, a relaxed ambience, and staff who clearly know the menu well. This is not a concept restaurant built on Instagram aesthetics. It’s a proper Spanish kitchen focused on doing the classics right.

What We Ordered & Full Review

Paella de la Casa ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The centrepiece, and it earns that status. The Paella de la Casa is My Little Spanish Place’s signature house paella, cooked in a rich seafood broth with sofrito and loaded generously with prawns, baby squid, fish, chicken, and chorizo. The rice had absorbed the broth beautifully, each grain flavoured through without turning mushy, which is the mark of a paella cooked with patience and proper heat management.

The combination of seafood and meat works well here. The chorizo lent smoky depth that underpinned the sweetness of the prawns and squid, while the fish held together without going dry. At this price point and portion size, it comfortably serves two as a shared main.

Gambas al Ajillo ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The standout dish of the evening. Prawns cooked in olive oil, garlic, chili, and their secret sauce, this is a classic done exceptionally well. The prawns arrived plump, juicy, and perfectly cooked, with the garlic-infused oil carrying just enough heat from the chili without overpowering. We found ourselves mopping up the remaining sauce with bread long after the prawns were gone. If you order nothing else, order this.

Tarta de Queso ⭐⭐⭐

A light and creamy Basque burnt cheesecake with a speculoos crust, finished with raspberry coulis. The cheesecake itself was well-executed, appropriately soft in the centre with that characteristic lightly charred top and the speculoos crust added a welcome spiced crunch. The raspberry coulis was bright and tart, cutting through the richness nicely. Solid, but relative to the gambas, this felt like a capable rather than memorable dessert. Worth ordering if you have a sweet tooth, but not the reason to make the trip.

Moritz Pilsner Draft – Full Pint ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A Spanish lager that paired well with the tapas and paella. Clean, crisp, and easy-drinking without any fuss. The right call for a warm Singapore evening.

What to Order: Our Recommendations

My Little Spanish Place excels at tapas and their signature paella. Here’s what we’d steer you toward:

Recommended Items:

  1. Gambas al Ajillo — We tried this; easily the best dish of the night. Order it.
  2. Paella de la Casa — The house signature, generously loaded and well-executed for two
  3. Tarta de Queso — Solid Basque burnt cheesecake if you want dessert; the speculoos crust is a nice touch
  4. Moritz Pilsner — Keep it Spanish, pairs well with everything on the menu

💡 Pro Tip: Come hungry and order the paella to share alongside at least one or two tapas. The portions are generous, and the gambas is not optional.

Final Verdict

Overall Rating: 8/10

My Little Spanish Place delivered a satisfying Spanish evening without any pretension. The Gambas al Ajillo alone is worth making the trip for genuinely excellent execution of a classic dish. The paella held its own as a centrepiece, and the overall experience felt honest and well-priced for what Singapore dining typically demands.

It’s not a destination fine-dining restaurant, but it was never trying to be. What it offers is consistent, well-cooked Spanish food in a welcoming neighbourhood setting and in Singapore, that counts for a lot.

Would we return? Yes, specifically for the gambas and to explore more of the tapas menu.
