Why Village Park Is a Malaysian Must-Visit

Since the 1980s, Village Park Restaurant has been a Petaling Jaya institution. Generations of locals have queued outside this corner coffeeshop for what is widely regarded as one of the finest plates of nasi lemak in the Klang Valley and its enduring popularity speaks for itself. This is authentic Malaysian hawker cooking done to a near-impossible standard of consistency, not a reinvented café interpretation.

The moment you arrive, the queue outside tells you everything. The setting is entirely coffeeshop: ceiling fans, plastic chairs, and the kind of unhurried chaos that only the best Malaysian eating spots manage to pull off. The food arrives fast and what lands on your table is anything but ordinary.

What We Ordered & Full Review

Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The dish that made Village Park famous and it absolutely delivers. The coconut rice is light, fragrant, and cooked with just the right amount of pandan aroma without being greasy. The ayam goreng is generously sized, crispy-skinned, and remarkably juicy inside, easily one of the best fried chickens we’ve had in Malaysia. The sambal is the other standout: deeply caramelised, balanced in heat, and complex in a way that suggests long, patient cooking. Rounding out the plate are perfectly fried anchovies, roasted peanuts, a half-boiled egg, and fresh cucumber. Every component earns its place.

Village Park Coffee Set (2 Roti Bakar + 2 Half Boiled Eggs + Coffee or Tea) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Classic Malaysian breakfast, executed exactly as it should be. Two thick slices of charcoal-toasted roti bakar arrive generously spread with kaya and cold salted butter that melts into the warm toast. The half boiled eggs are perfectly set, silky whites, liquid golden yolks, ready for a splash of soy sauce and white pepper. The kopi is strong, smooth, and genuinely good. At this price, the set is outstanding value and the perfect pairing for the nasi lemak.

Final Verdict

Overall Rating: 9/10

Village Park delivered one of the best Malaysian breakfast experiences we’ve had. The nasi lemak ayam goreng is exceptional, fragrant coconut rice, masterclass-level fried chicken, and a sambal worth talking about long after the meal. The coffee set is simple, honest, and perfect. Everything here is done with care and consistency, which explains why this place has been packing in queues for decades.

Would we return? Without question. Next time, we want to try the nasi lemak with rendang and explore more of the daily protein options.
