Quán Phú Hồng restaurant exterior in Da Nang with Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand 2024 sign and grilled pork menu board

Some of the best meals happen by accident. After a morning spent wandering Da Nang Beach and browsing the stalls at Han Market, we stumbled into Quan Phu Hong with the whole family, tucked away on a quiet street in the Hai Chau district. We had no idea what we were walking into. It was only after the meal that we discovered this unassuming local spot is actually Michelin-listed, and the warm welcome we received from the owner made it one of the most memorable lunches of our entire Vietnam trip.

Why Quan Phu Hong Is Worth Finding

Quan Phu Hong isn’t trying to impress anyone. There’s no curated decor, no English menu translations designed for tourists, just a no-frills local eatery doing what it does best. We only discovered it was Michelin-listed after the meal, which says a lot about how this restaurant has earned its reputation: through consistently good food rather than marketing.

What made the visit stand out wasn’t just the food. With seven of us at the table, the owner personally came over and showed us how to properly wrap the nem nuong with rice paper and fresh herbs before eating, taking the time to walk the whole family through it step by step despite the language barrier. That kind of hospitality, offered without being asked, is what turns a quick lunch stop into something worth writing about.

What We Ordered & Full Review

Bun Thit Nuong (Barbecue Noodles) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A Da Nang lunchtime staple done simply and well, vermicelli noodles topped with grilled pork, fresh herbs, pickled vegetables, and a light fish sauce dressing. Nothing fussy here, just clean flavours and properly charred meat. With seven of us sharing the table, five bowls disappeared fast. Good for a light, refreshing meal in Da Nang’s heat.

Thit Nuong Cuon & Nem Nuong Cuon (Grilled Pork Rolls & Minced Pork Rolls) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

These two came out together, and it’s easy to see why they’re often ordered as a pair. The thit nuong cuon is sliced grilled pork, savoury and slightly charred, while the nem nuong cuon is the skewered minced version with a flavour close to satay. Side by side, the textures complement each other nicely, one firmer and sliced, the other looser and more aromatic.

The owner showed us how to wrap both properly in rice paper with fresh herbs and vegetables before dipping, and that extra step made a real difference to the final bite. Between the two, the nem nuong cuon edged ahead as our favourite, but ordering both gave us the best of the table.

For a Michelin-listed restaurant, the prices at Quan Phu Hong are remarkably accessible, working out to roughly 54,000 VND (about SGD 2.90) per person for a full family lunch. This is the kind of value that’s hard to find once you leave Vietnam, generous portions, quality ingredients, and genuine technique, all at local pricing.

What to Order: Our Recommendations

Recommended Items:

  1. Nem Nuong Cuon — We ordered this, the clear highlight of the meal
  2. Thịt Nuong Cuon — We ordered this, a great pairing alongside the nem nuong
  3. Thit Bo Nuong La Lot (Grilled Beef Wrapped in Betel Leaves) — A Vietnamese classic, fragrant grilled beef wrapped and cooked in betel leaf, worth ordering alongside the nem nuong
  4. Bun Thit Nuong — We ordered this, a satisfying and refreshing local staple

💡Pro Tips: If it’s offered, let the staff show you how to wrap the nem nuong properly with rice paper and herbs, it genuinely changes the dish. Quan Phu Hong pairs well as a lunch stop after exploring Han Market, since it’s only a short walk away, and the casual, communal style of eating makes it especially well-suited for families or larger groups.

Final Verdict

Overall Rating: 9/10

Quan Phu Hong delivered one of the most genuine dining experiences of our Da Nang trip, simple, well-executed local food served with real hospitality, in a setting relaxed enough for the whole family. The nem nuong alone is worth the visit, and discovering afterward that it’s Michelin-listed only confirmed what we’d already tasted.

Would we return? Absolutely, next time specifically for more of the nem nuong and to try the thit bo nuong la lot.
