Here’s everything you need to know about dining in this centuries-old cellar restaurant.

Why U Glaubiců Is Worth Finding

U Glaubiců is the kind of restaurant you discover by happy accident and immediately feel lucky to have found. Located just steps from Prague Castle in the Lesser Town (Malá Strana), this restaurant occupies a building with centuries of history. This is authentic Czech cuisine in genuine medieval cellars, not a themed tourist trap.

The moment you descend two floors underground, you enter authentic medieval cellars with stone vaulted ceilings, thick walls that have stood for centuries, candlelit tables, and intimate alcoves. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious, with multiple cellar rooms creating cozy, romantic spaces, the perfect ending to our first day exploring Prague Castle.

What We Ordered & Full Review

Roasted Pork Ribs in BBQ Marinade with Two Sauces, Fried Potatoes & Coleslaw ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Generous portion of fall-off-the-bone tender ribs with excellent BBQ marinade that wasn’t overly sweet, balanced smokiness with Czech spice influences. The meat had been slow-roasted to perfection, pulling away cleanly from the bone. Accompanied by crispy fried potatoes (not fries, actual potato pieces), tangy coleslaw for freshness, and two dipping sauces that complemented without overpowering. After a full day of walking Prague Castle and climbing hills, this hearty portion hit the spot perfectly. While delicious, this leans slightly more international than traditionally Czech, but the quality and generous portion make it excellent value.

Homemade Cabbage Soup with Sausage Served in Bread ⭐⭐⭐

Traditional Czech cabbage soup (zelňačka) loaded with chunks of sausage, served inside a hollowed-out round bread bowl. While the presentation is charming and the concept is quintessentially Czech, we found the soup quite salty, a bit too heavy-handed with the seasoning for our taste. The soup was hearty and warming, and tearing apart the bread bowl to soak up the broth was fun, but overall it didn’t stand out as anything particularly special. If you can eat beef, we’d recommend trying the beef goulash served in bread instead, it’s likely to be more flavorful and balanced.

Pilsner Urquell ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Excellent value for Prague’s signature beer. Served properly with a thick creamy head, cold and fresh. At this price point in a sit-down restaurant near Prague Castle, it’s practically a steal, embrace Czech beer culture!

Final Verdict

Overall Rating: 8/10

U Glaubiců delivered exactly what we wanted after our first day exploring Prague Castle, authentic Czech cuisine, generous portions, reasonable prices, and an atmospheric medieval setting that made dinner feel like an experience rather than just a meal. The cabbage soup in bread was quintessentially Czech comfort food, and those candlelit stone cellars two floors underground create genuine historic ambiance you won’t find in modern restaurants.

Would we return? Absolutely! Next time to try the roast pork knuckle and beef goulash in bread.
